Theories
So what do I believe? Which conclusions have I come to through my "seeking"?
Understand that the "theories" on this page are just that, theories. They are not "beliefs" or matters of faith in any way. I well know that I could be totally wrong about any of these "guesses". I do not claim that my soul's journey on Earth will ever truly be able to answer these questions. I do not seek faith. Faith is something I do not understand and do not think is necessary. In some instances, I believe that faith can even be destructive to the soul's progress. I have no problem saying "I don't know" about just about anything. I simply cannot help but struggle with the age-old questions of humanity ... and hypothesize. And so, I've come up with some theories, based on what I know and have experienced so far, as temporary and evolving answers to those questions, the first being: Who are we human beings and why are we here?

Theory #1: Who Are We Human Beings?
I have a theory about who and what we are as human beings on this Earth. It might sound a little crazy... ok, a lot crazy. Nevertheless, it is a theory I'm working with until I decide to alter it, based on further exploration, experience and thought.
I believe that human beings are unique among the creatures of the Earth. Well, that part isn't crazy, we know we're unique. But how are we unique? First, we have proportionally much larger brains than the next largest primate brain, which is the brain of the Bonobo monkey. The brain-to-body-mass ratio for human beings is 1:50, while for the Bonobo it is 1:70. The larger brain obviously makes us unique in many ways. But, it is important to remember that brain science is relatively uncharted, and there is much about the human brain that scientists do not understand, even large portions of the brain in which its function is relatively unknown.
Possibly the most distinct benefit our larger brains have granted us humans is language. No other animal on Earth has language. Yes, there exist remarkable communication systems among the creatures of the earth, such as dolphins and whales, birds, many mammals, even ants! But none of these systems of communication comes even close to human language in complexity, flexibility and sophistication.
Anthropologists cannot be sure about how or when the human brain developed from a simpler brain, such as the Bonobo brain, to the modern human brain. Brain matter is, of course, soft tissue, so there are no samples from fossil remains to analyze. The development of the human brain has to be guessed at, based on artifacts that can be observed, such as tool making, food production and consumption, and social organization as well as increases in the size of the cranium. (The reason human beings have such a difficult time in childbirth, compared to other mammals, is because the human skull is proportionally much bigger than that of other mammal infants.)

Okay, so now we get to my theory. I believe that human beings are comprised of an evolutionary primate and a form of life from outside of our galaxy. In other words, I think we're part animal and part.... well, alien.
My theory is that aliens came here about 300,000 years ago, the time when Homo Sapiens first walked the earth. They found primates here, fairly advanced primates, like our cousins the Bonobos, or perhaps a pre-Neanderthal sub-species.
Perhaps these animals were of similar bodily structure to the aliens. Maybe not. But, for whatever reason, they estimated that these creatures would be good subjects with which to combine their DNA to create a new version of themselves, perhaps a version of themselves that could easily inhabit this strange, new planet.
Whatever their motivations, they somehow melded their beings with the primates they found here, merged with them, particularly affecting the brains of these primates. This merging, then, is responsible for the development of language, unique among the Earth's creatures. With language, and larger, "updated" brains, we became modern human beings, or Homo Sapiens.
From that merging of beings, the aliens have been observing our development, watching, monitoring our progress as a species. (This could explain pre-historic drawings of space-suit-clad beings on cave walls and human-created patterns on the land that can be viewed only from a high altitude.) UFOs are simply our creators keeping an eye on us, as they've been doing for hundreds of thousands of years!
So ..... do I believe in God?

by Giovanni Battista Cima (1459-1517)
Theory #2: The Source
Well ..... yes. And no. Or I don't know yet. My current theory doesn't include God in the sense of a Judeo-Christian type supreme being, author of creation, who listens to our prayers.
When I think of how the universe came to be, how this whole thing began, I lean toward the concept of a "Source". The Source is mysterious, in that we don't really understand the nature of it. (however, I do think we gain understanding when we are present in the sprit realm, between lives) I conceptualize it as a tiny block of matter, denser by a zillion times than anything we know of on Earth, incredibly dense, all packed into this little block of matter. The Source manifests when something similar to what scientists describe as the "big bang" occurs, a vast explosion that scatters huge chunks and tiny particles of this dense matter out, carrying its energy forth to create the universe, eventually. And us, more eventually.
So, the Source is basically energy propelling matter, and everything that exists is part of that energy in whatever form it ends up taking through chemical/physical processes or, later, through the process of the evolution of life on earth (and other planets!). The Source is neither good nor bad. It just is what it is. I don't think it has consciousness. Consciousness comes later, and perhaps that process has more to do with what I experience as God than the creation of the Universe. Everything comes from Source, everything. In that sense, we as human beings are really the same as star dust, derived from that one humungous blast that began it all.
As Earth is a special part of the universe, at least for us, I like to envision the Earth goddess, Gaia as the assigned custodian of our planet. It is to Gaia that I express gratitude, awe, wonder and love for our planet and the natural world.

Reincarnation?
When I was in college, my roommate and I were famous for staying up to the wee hours with a bottle (or two) of wine, talking "deep" topics. We began a conversation one night to try and answer the question "what happens to us when we die?".
My roommate gave me a book to read entitled "Many Lives, Many Masters" by Brian L. Weiss, M.D. about a patient of the author's who began to "remember" past lives under hypnosis. This book was the beginning of my journey towards embracing the concept of reincarnation. I'm convinced that this is the most likely "purpose" for our lives.
Most people who believe in reincarnation say that the purpose of reincarnating over and over again is so that the soul can grow, learn and advance. I do not agree. The way I see it, we are perfect, divine when in our spirit form. We don't need to learn from living on Earth. I believe that we choose to incarnate on Earth in an epic effort to raise the animal, homo sapien, to a higher level of being - to learn to manage our animal side and live on Earth with our spiritual selves taking precedence in our daily lives. The goal is to bring humanity as a whole to a place where life on Earth will be idyllic because humans are honoring their spiritual nature and rejecting the negative urges and tendencies that come with being human animals.
I believe this process began tens of thousands of years ago. The earliest homo sapiens walked the Earth about 300,000 years ago. Modern humans emerged about 160,000 years ago. Around that time, the human brain enlarged significantly in a relatively short evolutionary period of time, which anthropologists still can’t explain. Did we souls find this planet back then and somehow manage to meld our spiritual selves with early homo sapiens? That is the direction I’m going in at the present time.

Whether UFO sightings and abductions are related to our spiritual destiny is another question I have. Could they BE a physical form of our spirit selves? Or are they working in tandem with us "reincarnating souls" on this humanity experiment? I think it’s one or the other. I hesitate to say that the alien beings who have visited and continue to visit Earth are the same population of souls that we join on the other side when we die, mostly because of UFO sightings. Would we, as eternal souls, travel in space craft to reach the Earth? It seems a little odd. However, maybe they do need a conveyance when moving among the planets because of physical/dimensional variances between Earth and our spiritual home. Just not sure. More on UFO sightings and abductions later!
UPDATE:
(July 2025)
Incredibly, I saw this video recently. I am blown away. This man was told that we humans are hybrids, a combination of animal and alien.
This is MY theory!

The video below is about 20th century psychic medium, Edgar Cayce (1877-1945), known as "the Sleeping Prophet", because he delivered his revelations while reclining, eyes closed, on a couch, and often had no memory of what he had said when he awoke. A dedicated secretary/stenographer took down every word of thousands of "readings" during Cayce's lifetime.
There are many videos on youtube about Cayce's life and his readings. I chose to include this one on this page of "theories" because what he discloses under trance in one particular reading matches my theory on the purpose of reincarnation and, frankly, the meaning of human life with astonishing similarity.
I stipulate (as stated above under "Reincarnation") that souls do not reincarnate to learn on Earth in order to grow as souls. I believe it is the opposite, in fact. In Elys (afterlife), we souls are integrated with Tara (God). We are one and the same, we are divine beings of light and energy. There is no need to come to Earth for growth, as we are already in our most perfected form.
I was so surprised and thrilled to see Edgar Cayce, whose trance readings were uncannily accurate throughout his life, state this as fact. We are not learning to be better souls. We come to Earth to learn to be better human beings! We are evolving from animal primates of 160,000 years ago to raise humanity to a higher level. While on Earth we practice how to be successful people, while working to overcome personal obstacles and to learn about the nature of ourselves and of reality. This is necessarily a long process, requiring hundreds if not thousands of lives. As we work on ourselves in each subsequent lifetime, we are also helping to raise the universal human consciousness, which is the essence of Tara (God). However, it is my belief that we ARE evolving in a positive direction, and that this evolution is accelerating faster than at any other time in human history. More and more people around the world are coming back to spiritual pursuits, engaging in conversations about who we are, returning to spiritual and religious roots they may have abandoned at one time.
When the process is complete, it will be like an Earthly paradise, as human beings will have mastered or conquered our unhelpful "animal" qualities and maximized our divine souls, rich with endless love and compassion, within the physical human body.
This is the second time I have come across a video that echoes my own hypotheses. I continue to be amazed.
(if you don't want to watch from the beginning, the relevant part is at minute 16:30, but I highly recommend watching the entire video)
